NaiSuan (ในสวน) is a community enterprise in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. We buy fallen Tong Tueng leaves — prime wildfire fuel — along with areca sheaths and corn husks from the local community, then wash, dry and press them by hand into pieces that are beautiful, food-safe, and compost back into the soil. Fallen Tong Tueng leaves, areca sheaths, corn husks — every year they end in the fire or the waste pile, turned into PM2.5 and greenhouse gas. Material with far more left to give.
We buy the material from the community, then wash it, sun-dry it, and press it in the hot mould — one piece at a time, by hand — until a leaf once headed for the fire sits on a dining table, or travels as a gift with a story.
Less smoke over the valley, less carbon in the sky, and income flowing back into the community — all from material the fire used to take.
